Weekly Update #8
The last two weeks we missed our regular Friday post — but for a good reason! When we started building Menu, please!, our goal was to get the product into users’ hands as fast as possible, figure out what breaks, fix it, and inch closer to a true “full product experience.” We’re proud to say we’re almost there.
Our translation error rate has dropped from 30% to under 1%, we’re now available on the Apple App Store, and on our way to the Google Play Store. Nearly 1,000 users have registered to try our little ordering helper.
It feels amazing to head in the right direction — and even better seeing your support. Menu, please! had a TOP 10 launch on Product Hunt . Thank you so, so much! ❤️
What’s New?
📌 Floating & Collapsible Categories
Menus with many categories (places like bars, hotpot restaurants, breakfast restaurants) were taking up too much screen space. Now you can collapse the category view and get more space to explore the menu!
🇹🇭 Thai Language Support
We started with just 3 languages, but we’re now expanding! Thai is the first of our next wave — aiming to support the top 10 Asian languages that don’t use Latin alphabets. What language should we add next?
🖼️ Image Quality Gates
Previously, you had to wait through the whole process only to learn your image was unreadable. Now, Menu, please! checks image quality up front — and gives you a result within 5 seconds. No more waiting, just to be disappointed.
🔄 EXIF Orientation Fixes
We accidentally stripped EXIF data from images to keep them small — but this broke rotation, especially on Android. Most images now auto-rotate correctly. (Still fixing edge cases.)
🎙️ Better Audio Recording
We fixed a bug that caused the first second of your audio to be missed due to a delay after the start beep. Now recording starts instantly and catches every single word!
What’s Next?
➕ Add-On Recognition Improvements
Thanks to our user Nico, we discovered that menus with unclear add-on sections (like toppings or options) often confuse the model. We’re working on a better workflow to recognize and separate them.
🤖 Android Beta Round 2
Google wasn’t fully satisfied with our initial Android test. We’re doing another round of beta testing now and hope to go live soon. Want to help? Sign up on the Menu, please! website.
👋 User Research & Interviews
We’re talking to our most active users to learn how to make Menu, please! the best ordering buddy in Asia. Can’t wait to chat with more of you!
📣 Finding Our Foodie Tribe
Until now, all of our growth has been organic. In the next few weeks, we’re reaching out to food creators on Instagram and TikTok to bring Menu, please! to even more travelers and foodies.
Weekly Thank You!
❤️ To everyone who clicked Upvote on Product Hunt — your support helped us reach the Top 10 launch.
❤️ To Nico for surfacing the add-on section bug — this kind of feedback is critical.
❤️ To Grant Harvey & The Neuron and Andrew McKee & Clicks ’n Clacks for featuring Menu, please! in your newsletters. The motivation you gave us is priceless.
